The Phoenix Academy is continuing to strive to meet the needs of our pupils and whilst continuing to offer core subjects, we are also introducing new vocational subjects. We need to be innovative, while ensuring that the key functional skills are strong and can be transferred into a variety of contexts, so young people will be able to adapt to the challenges to be faced in a changing world.
In years 7, 8 and 9 the timetable is made of compulsory subjects but in year 10 and 11 pupils can opt to follow a more personalised timetable, which include optional choices. E.g. motor vehicle, public services and sport and leisure. These subjects range from entry level qualifications to level 2 qualification in a GCSE or a Btec qualifications. Many of our pupils will be following the Foundation Learning route as from September 2010.
Some of these subjects are offered in partnership with other schools and FE colleges to enable our pupils to access are broader curriculum.
The Phoenix Academy currently offers the following optional subjects in keystage 4:
- Home cooking
- Motor vehicle
- GCSE art
- GCSE History
- GCSE Music
Alongside our internal option choices, The Phoenix Academy also offers alternative programmes in partnership other providers such as FE colleges and employers. The aim of these alternative programmes are to meet the individual needs of all of our learners and ensure they reach their true potential by accessing alternative forms of education.
