The Phoenix Academy Trust gained academy status as of 1 March 2013 and is a special mixed academy that provides education for pupils that have social, emotional and mental health difficulties as identified in either a statement of special education needs or EHCP. We provide an individualised curriculum for pupils aged 11 – 16 years, tailored to meet the academic needs of our pupils in a safe and secure environment, that enables them to make progress in managing their own behaviour.
We provide parents and carers with a home/school liaison manager who is able to support parents during the holiday periods, at weekends and in the evenings. Parents are involved in promoting the well-being and work of the academy and the academy regularly informs them of pupil progress.
Pupils are supported, both on our main site and at our alternative settings by teachers and support staff in developing personalised learning. Staff are skilled in managing challenging behaviour and in helping pupils manage their anger. Assessment is ongoing within the academy and parents are informed twice a year with full reports on pupil progress. Key workers meet on a termly basis to discuss with pupils targets that have been agreed with pupils that span social, emotional and academic attainment.
Key Stage 4 pupils have the opportunity to gain a range of nationally accredited qualifications, we also have a vocational learning programme. Parents and pupils discuss with staff their individualised learning programme for Key Stage 4, we have developed good relationships with local FE colleges and ensure that all pupils leave with a clear destination for post 16 provision.
The academy works with a range of professionals to support our pupils, both in school and in the community. The academy takes the lead in promoting the well-being of our pupils and has since 2003, when we first opened as The Phoenix School found ways of helping and supporting all our pupils.
We have gained and retained the following national logo’s:-
International Schools – Full Award
Eco Schools – Green Flag
Careers Mark – Gold Award

The school gained specialist status in our designated area of SEN and has been involved in delivering behaviour management training to a family of schools.
